Setting Up Devices Safely
Module 2 — Setting Up Devices Safely
A new tablet, phone or console — set it up together instead of secretly supervising. This module shows how you agree child accounts, age limits, payment blocks and time limits as a family. Not a spy tool, a project for two.

The New Tablet on the Table
For parents: Birthday. A colourfully wrapped box. Inside: a tablet for your kid (9). You're proud — and a little nervous. What if they end up in the wrong apps? What if they buy something by accident? What if tonight you get a £120 bill for in-app purchases?
First impulse: "I'll quickly set it up on my own before I hand it over."
Wait a second.
For kids: Imagine getting your first own device. You rip off the wrapping paper — and you're not even allowed to turn it on, because Mum or Dad still needs to "set something up". You wait. You don't know what they're setting up. What you do notice: Nobody really trusts me.
There's a different way.
The idea of this module: Sit down together — both of you. Unbox it as a team. And set up the device together, step by step. It takes longer. But it changes everything.
